I am researching my father line, the Williams' from Briton Ferry, i have managed to trace them back to the 1790's when they were river pilots.
My Grandfather Benjamin 1862-1934 and his brother Thomas 1852-1916 are currently my main areas of interest.
Their parents were Griffith Williams (1823- 1893) and Cecilia Thomas (1824-1869). Their siblings were (David; Margaret; Thomas; Jane (1); Jane (2); Griffith; Benjamin and William)
Benjamin married Cecilia Thomas in 1886, and Florence Potter 1910 and then there was my Grandmother E E M Williams but thats another story.
Thomas i hardly know anything about other than he gained his captains licence in Queenland in 1885. 1908 till 1916 he had 3 pearl luggers working out of Broome. Western Australia.
Any help would be most welcome
kind regards
Paul Williams
It may be worth contacting Father Gary at St Marys Church in Briton Ferry, he may be able to help you with the parish records, i have heard that there are quite a few entries in regards to the river etc.
You can also call down to the centre on a Thursday afternoon, we have a geneology class, also have a look at the Cambrian online paper, google Swansea archives.
Hi Neil,
i have the parish records they were very useful finding that my family were baptised and married at one church locally, but buried at another, i did wonder why i brought both sets of microfiche.
i do not live locally but that would be a good idea if it was the case.
I have been talking directly to Bryan Richards who is putting the records of Swansea mariers online and he has provided a few leads.
kind regards
Paul Williams
