MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM THE MAYOR Now that we don't have a Guardian newspaper any more, I will be using this website and my own to give you - all the people of Briton Ferry news and views, in 2010. This year has certainly been a challenge for our community, like the rest of the country and the world, and even more challenging in 2010, with pressure on finance, public sector services, unemployment and job losses and pressure on family life. Wearing my Christian and church hat, to me Christmas is special, a time to forget our differences, think of those with little and a wonderful time of course for the children. It is also a time to think about family life and especially the children and the elderly living in Briton Ferry. Despite our many challenges, Briton Ferry has always been a warm community and always ready to help others and give to charity. I hope through my painting I reflect the character and hidden beauty of Briton Ferry. As Briton Ferry town mayor this year and to next May, I have been greatly moved this week by the school Christmas concerts that I have attended. All Briton Ferry schools have put on superb Christmas carol services and plays as we run up to Christmas Day and with so much young talent. All staff and pupils should be congratulated. For a few days before we resume life again and facing the challenges, like old contaminated land, cleaning up areas surrounding the Brunel dand continuing to regenerate our town here in Briton Ferry I hope that everyone will have a peaceful and good Christmas. Have a warm happy and blessed Christmas - to everyone living in Briton Ferry. My best wishes as always to you all Hugh |
